Sausalito!

The beauty of having "normal hours"? Adventures in the middle of the week! Adam got the afternoon off, and I'm still in the midst of summer school (students 9am - 2pm), so we decided to take advantage of this precious time and enjoy our new home. Adam met me at school at 4 and got to see my classroom and some of the school, and then we were off to Sausalito. It was a lot of fun to drive over the bridge and down through the mountains into the town. It was stunning - a crystal blue bay with a gorgeous backdrop of mountains dotted with homes and the San Francisco cityscape in the distance. Ah.
We had places picked out to have dinner and dessert, but along our walk on the main tourist street, we happened upon our dessert destination. Dessert first? Yes please! We got delicious ice cream, sat by the water, and people watched.
We then alternated between sitting by the gorgeous water and walking along it. It was just peaceful and relaxing to get to have a calm afternoon together with no real agenda.
Along our walk, we saw an unrecognizable statue thing in the water, that Adam realized was supposed to be a seal. He is definitely the seal whisperer, as this is the 2nd time in a week he has spotted one in the water.
Then...the real thing!! So glad my camera was handy this time around. It ducked under water and we didn't see it again, so I didn't get any better pictures, but it was still amazing to be walking and just happen upon a seal. As I've said 1000 times, Toto, we're not in New York anymore.

We ended the day with a delicious dinner at a family-owned Indian restaurant a bit off the beaten path. We drove home through the gorgeous (and windy!) mountains, reflecting on how awesome it is that we could spend a short few hours 20 minutes away, yet feel like in another world. It was during that lovely conversation, less than 10 minutes from home, when this happened:
Yup, that's our bumper. Notice that it now says California?! We were hoping for the California to be on the license plate...! We were at a stop sign when a pickup truck hit us from behind. We're both totally fine, and the car is drive-able, but it was a complete shock, as this is the first time anything like this has happened to either of us. We exchanged information with the other driver, filed a claim, etc., so we'll see what happens. Just a little bonus to bring us back to reality I guess. It's a good thing we had been coming from such an awesome afternoon!!

I'm so glad that you guys are having fun exploring the Bay! I'm so jealous, I miss it a lot. I had no idea that they had Lapperts in Sausalito, though! It's a Hawaiian company and we used to spend every summer there, so I ate a lot of Lapperts growing up! The Lillikoi sorbet is to die for.
